About the 850
The Eight Fifty Committee is a veteran-founded, veteran-led West Virginia nonprofit. We connect the veterans of North Central West Virginia to the services they have earned and the community they deserve — meeting every veteran where they are, not where the system says they should be.
Our six counties — Preston, Monongalia, Marion, Harrison, Taylor, and Wood — are home to 21,020 veterans, 19 percent of the state's entire veteran population, in a state that carries one of the highest veteran suicide rates in the nation. This platform exists so that no one among them stands alone.
What we believe
In West Virginia, when one of us suffers harm, all of us do. Hope is a skill that can be taught. The hardest systems a veteran faces should be made simple. And the best person to help a veteran is usually another veteran who has walked the same road.
Our promises to you
- The veteran experience is always free. We will never charge you to access help, a benefit, or a crisis resource.
- We do not sell your data. Ever. No advertisers, no data brokers.
- We are not a crisis service — but the Veterans Crisis Line (dial 988, press 1) is one tap from every screen, always.
- When we help with benefits, we connect you to free accredited representatives. We never charge for a claim.
Building Community. Providing Representation. Closing the Gap.
